Just out of curiosity, why do you lift the rear if it is still on the sprocket?
You need to lift the machine to get the track under the lower rollers. Lifting both ends is easier and safer than lifting the front a WHOLE bunch.

Re: Oh boy, need a lot of track help

I don't remember how much the idler moves but it is a good amount. Your compact tractor loader can also be very useful to lift/pull or also parked in the right place as a deadman for the come-a-long. Lifting the rear, a stack of 2'x2'x 3/4" plywood then some 2x6 will spread the load as the first lay...

Re: Oh boy, need a lot of track help

I have had a track come off several times before I rebuilt the undercarriage on my 450C track loader. Didn't split the track to get it back on. After releasing the grease from the track tensioner, compress it with a block of wood and using the bucket curl (or with the bucket as a hard point, use a b...

Re: Front Idler

I was able to get the track off without splitting it by taking the grease fitting out of the tensioner, compressing it with a block and the bucket and using a come a long and bars to lift, poke, tug, wiggle the track to the side. The idler then came off easily.

Re: 450C Back hoe hook up question

The most difficult hoses on the backhoe are the boom cylinder. The cylinder is up inside the boom and you have to remove it to get to the connections. Do able, just a pain in the neck with major swearing. As far as the main hoses connecting the hoe to the loader, I don't think it matters which is wh...

Re: Hood latches

Lavoy:
Would those hood latches work on the folding roof of the ROPS (backhoe attachment style) or do you have any roof latches?

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

On my 9300 backhoe attachment we took the cushions off cut new foam to match original and recovered with marine upholstery vinyl. Ours had wooden bases so we used about a million stainless steel staples to secure it. Used "T" nuts to bolt the seat to the frame.

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

When you go to pick up those two main disconnect hoses bring a wheelbarrow full of money. Those two aren't cheap! (or even reasonable)

Re: 1979 350B loader

2 x on that LeonardL said. I have a 450C track loader and it is as handy as a shirt pocket. Big enough to do real work, small enough that it can be easily transported, get into small places and is thrifty on fuel. When working on it, parts are small enough to be manageable with basic lifting/pulling...

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

While you have the booms/lift towers apart change all the hoses and inspect the hard lines as well. It is much easier to work on when disassembled. i recently had to change one hose so while I was dirty/greasy/gooey, and had things partially disassembled I did all of them.

Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

I have had several lines repaired simply by cleaning and brazing. Cracks and suspect pits were filled and have shown no signs of weakness.
Probably would only replace them if crushed or severed.

If a 450C dozer with single grousers you would have a better chance than a 450C loader with triple grousers.

Once you do one side and have figured out the tricks to getting the hoses out and back, it really is not too bad of a job.

Re: BAD Diesel HELP

Once you get the machine running as it should, consider using "Howe's Diesel Treat" as an additive. It will help keep water, algae at bay and add lubricity to the ultra low Sulphur diesel they are now selling. Used it for years in my boat with 6-71ti Detroits and never had a problem.

Re: Backhoe for 450, will it fit a 350C?

If it is a model 9100 back hoe it may fit but realistically will be too big. I have one on my 450C track loader and while it is a digging monster the machine is very tail heavy, if I am not actively using it, I take it off. With a front bucket full of rock the machine is better balanced but still a ...
