There is a needle valve just ahead of the thermostat (pressure side) with a line (1/4" approx) to the back of the head.  I have no idea what it is for or how much the valve should be open. :?: gus

Is a DC welder needed for nickle rod?? I have an AC but can get a DC to use if needed.

I still haven't gotten to the parts. Doesn't look like I'll have time until spring. I will photo the process and post.

If others have photos, I'd like to see them.

VERY nice!!! After all that work, I'd have to close my eyes and grit my teeth the first time I got it dirty. After that's over with, it's a work tractor

Lavoy, I can live with a visible repair as it is something that only "nit pickers" would see. I just hate the look of large washers or missing pieces on an otherwise nice tractor. I have a wire feed but have never tried it on cast. Also a torch. Using bronze don't you have to heat the whole piece up...

Cast iron repair??

I did not have any luck with the search feature and I hope this isn't one of those questions that gets asked daily. I have noticed a couple of "ears??" where bolts go through to hold the finals (or other places also) are broken. Usually missing parts and now have big washers to help hold. Or, some o...

I was not aware that the rollers were the same. I thought the 420 had bearings. The 40 came with 6 brand new rollers!!!

Other than number of links, is the sproket or track the same? I guess I could get out the measuring equipment and check that

Tempting, but trouble...

For several months I have driven by what appears to be either a 1010 or 2010 loader tractor. It's sitting just off the highway with a for sale sign on it. It looks rough (as in expensive to rebuild). Yesterday it was in the same place, with the hood off and leaning against it. Used to be 2 green cra...

Parts interchange??

I have a 40 and 420. The 40 is more of a basket case and I keep thinking it may get parted out. It really depends on what I find when I tear down the engine. It's sat outside for years (previous owner). Is the hyd pump and PTO the same on a 40 and 420?? 40 has both and 420 does not. What other parts...

I am near 100% positive it is an Ag crawler. My neighbor (central California) bought it new to pull his hay baler. He did a lot of custom bailing and didn't like being jerked around by the old balers and a wheel tractor. When he wore it out, it sat, and then he gave it to my brother when he moved of...

15 year debate

My brother has a 1010 sitting in his bone yard. It's been there for at least 15 years and probably a lot longer. Needs much work. Make that MUCH work. It's a bare farm tractor with a 3 point and PTO. About had the tracks ran off of it. I've been trying to talk him out of it for as many years as he's...

Last night I was thinking of an H frame so I could get my engine lift in to remove heavy parts. That or make the frame high enough to let the lift go under it. The outside frame, as you have, would allow easier track work. The engine lift is the only thing I have to work with so it needs to be able ...

Lavoy, about that frame holding the tractor. How about some details?? I have at least 2 I'm going to work on and if I can get the 3rd one past the wife   ?? The 420 has had pieces welded on the end of the bars, no holes now, so I think I would want to go with saddles instead. Also the 40 d...
