Re: new owner with basic questions

Wife interrupted me again: on the 4 speed tranny there is no neutral but there are several false neutrals. When I was working on a 450C project machine I literally had to drag out of the woods in southern Louisiana it only had L and R with 1st and 2nd and 3rd and 4th couldn't be found. Tearing into ...

Re: new owner with basic questions

congrats on your new machine.Tranny first:clutch needs adjustment.Do several small adjustments versus a major adjustment: there is a procedure for clutch adjustment but decades old machines with slop in the linkages are more of a trial and error method. You want the clutch to just release at low RPM ...

Back at it and working on projects(2 now) and yesterday was bushings on attachment day. old out and putting in new after shrinking with dry ice still involved a very big hammer and some serious beating. Stepped back and thunk a little and next one i tried heating attachment bushing pocket to expand ...

Re: 350D track spring problem

Hi Bill, Trying to visualize this and when a crawler is moving without load it moves surprisingly easily. If you're getting that much backward movement of the front idler with no load it seems like something is in a bind on the rail/chain.I've worked on crawlers that had been sitting for long periods...

Re: My 450C in action

WOW! You have working headlights! These "little" dozers are more capable than most people realize. A trick I do is after initial knock down push I back up and get a good bite on the root ball and lift and push at the same time. Cuts down on track slippage and pops root ball right out of gr...

Re: Looking at a 350b crawler loader needs steering clutches

tensioner seals are pretty straight forward replacement. Split tracks and drive dozer forward on rails(chain) until track rotates off of front idler. Remove the 4 bolts attaching the yoke to the front idler assembly.Use a bar to push idler forward till it's almost off.Remove cover plug and grease va...

Re: Looking at a 350b crawler loader needs steering clutches

winch can stay on when removing finals and market is thin and limited. I'd list it for $1500.00 and be happy with a $1000.00 offer. But first time you get really stuck or high centered you'll wish you still had that winch.

Re: 450C injection pump issues

Morning, Tried posting earlier and wife interrupted me. Thought I pushed submit but nothing posted so if this comes up twice I am not having a "senior moment" :D Anyway, defiantly sounds like a bad injection pump. dealer will help guide you but procedure is simple. On left rear side of engine you sho...

Re: Looking at a 350b crawler loader needs steering clutches

And: 350B have dry clutches and brakes. Each side had a 4 bolt access cover under seat area(left and right of seat toward back). remove cover and if you see oil the transmission seals are shot and you're back to a complete tear down to fix. If dry this is the access to adjust brake bands. Pull steeri...

Re: Looking at a 350b crawler loader needs steering clutches

Just a thought: if clutches are bad it won't move under load. If steering is the problem it's probably the brakes. So it it moves under load I would first try adjusting the brake bands if it doesn't steer properly, Very easy job.

Re: Looking at a 350b crawler loader needs steering clutches

Around $200.00 per side for clutch discs and friction discs set.Seals etc add another $100.00 per side.On track tensioner seals with ball check about $25.00 per.If yokes are bad add $200.00 per side. Raise and block loader arms and bucket. Get master link to 9 o'clock on right side sprocket(left sid...

Re: Solvents for heavy degreasing

Hi Stan, Back when gas was gas I too used it. In my area you have to look HARD to find straight gasoline anywhere. Found 1 station 20 miles away that carries 93 octane straight gasoline and I get it for a little pick up on farm(straight gas won't suck in moisture like alcohol mix) wife's 4 wheeler,b...

Solvents for heavy degreasing

Morning everyone, Back in the day triclorethelyne was the go to solvent for heavy de-greasing. Would cut through most anything but then it was found to be pretty dang toxic. It was the same solvent used at dry cleaners btw. Making matters worse is that lawyers found it and sued pretty much everyone. ...

Re: JD350 diesel fuel troubleshooting?

Hi Bruce, Forgot to mention that when tank is drained you should disconnect fuel supply line at filter inlet and back blow the line to tank:there should be minimal resistance. The line itself though small should be easy to clear. The cut-off valve under the seat and back toward the fuel tank is usual...
