john deere 420c steering clutch linkage adjustment...

Hi guys about to pull my hair out over my rebuilt steering clutch. It feels likeit is adjusted too far in but am at the end of adjustment. and it is fully rebuilt. is there linkage that could be adjusted to take some of the slack in the lever up? I have been through the standard clutch / brake band ...

Ok Folks so I reused the almost new pressure plate when put the right steering clutch back together... Every thing is brand new except the almost new pressure plate. Both steering clutch pressure plates are adjusted the same and also the clutch plate and through out bear are the same distance apart....

The right hand reverser has its own resovoir, so if you have one dont just put the oil in the transmision and think your good. there are seals between the revereser and transmission. So I pull maple sap out of a (very muddy at times) woods from february to mid march and then the rest of the year it pretty much sits other than trail maintinence in the summer, or the times I get it out and wish it had rubber or wood pads so i could drive on pavement! Its not a must just curious!

This is just a work machine its not very pretty! I could try wood I just wonder how it would hold up? Cheaper than rubber!

Correct me if I am wrong some one but i believe the mc 40c 420c 430c and 440 had or could have pto and 3point from factory. IU have a 420c loader but it does not have 3 point or pto because it was more of an industrial crawler not an ag crawler. Yes the pto has a lever just like the 2 cylinder tract...

Yea I think I saw that one. I was wondering if any one has bolted tread in between each cleat. We sometimes have tractor tires go bad and was thinkin about bolting it in it..

E.Huffman, my 440c bearing with the new clutch pack from Lavoy, also runs to the end of the slot..actually have to have the flat washer on it to catch and hold the end of the slot...right steering...not replaced and it too is at end of slot...so appears JimB and others would be on target. and YES t...

Ah makes sense! I was thinking reverse of that and thought maybe I had something wrong. Thanks guys you all are great help!

Thanks you all So I decided to take it out for a spin aways this afternoon and it seems to do a lot better... Dont know what caused it in the first place... However I am getting a little slippage on the left side. probably needs adjusted. A question though... is the through oput bearing adjustment s...
