well i have a jd440ic as well...just to give you an idea of costs....i replaced 1 side of steering....new clutch pack (steels and fibres), throw out , sleeve and new brake band if i remember correctly that was a total of $650, though i do recommend that you read all the posts in regards to the jd440...

tracks look tight and kinda close to end for 26 hrs????????

i added 4 ounce sea foam motor treatment to my full tank of gas...i don't see the black smoke NOW, will see next time i run it. have not messed with jets. by the way...here it is May 7th and the dozer is still running fine tho i suspect will need to add sea foam again done used it all up...pushing h...

Joe, just as info..just did add sea foam motor treatment to my jd440ic hydraulics...4 ounces in my tank that was completely milky...half hour later clean as new oil!!!! gonna try it in my tranny which was changed (oil) last year just to see what happens...gonna try 4 ounce and then maybe the other 4...

he could not get it started...so far he has not responded..i assume someone got it.

where are you located? it helps if you add location to your profile... if you really want it..the 1500 aint bad...i worked on a jd 40s wheeled tractor that sat for 20 years...it is 2 cylinder as well....1 of the cylinders was rusted to the walls...set all winter with pb blaster and then miracle oil....

re...milky hydraulics...i put 4 oz. of sea foam ..motor treatment in..worked it maybe half hour and fluid is clear like new!!!! haven't had to work angle yet but would bet that got cleared too...put 4 oz in gas tank tis full will see how that goes

My jd440ic is running a bit rich....have carbon out exhaust...dang book does not show how or which to turn in etc or how many turns...do i adjust the idle screw...or load screw??? how many turns out??? both my 440 dozer and 40s wheeled running rich...seems to me one of them or both has a little cran...
