Re: # 60 blades

I ended up with the same issue with stripped u-bolts. I picked up some grade 8 bolts the same size and cut the heads off. I then cut the stripped portion of the ubolts off, beveled both halves, Mig'd them up on high heat, and dressed them up with a grinder. They ended up looking pretty good and took...

Re: Screenprinting shop gone

Sorry to hear that. Insurance is worth every penny. A neighbor owns a restaurant building that he leased to a tenant that operated a diner. The building burned in July, not sure what the cause was. The tenant had insurance on his business, but my neighbor carried no insurance on the building. My nei...

Re: Acceptable Rail Height?

Thanks! Yeah, understood that rails for two bolt pads are no longer available. I have 12" snow pads with caulks welded on the grousers. Pads are in decent shape and work really well for winter logging. I figured that if the existing rails are 50% or better I'll rebush and run them. If they are less ...

Re: Acceptable Rail Height?

Did a search, didn't come up with anything regarding rail height. Maybe my search skills aren't up to par, wouldn't be the first time ambition trumped skill, lol. Did find the Crawler Heaven wear table here:https://sites.google.com/site/crawlerheaven/wear-limitpinsandbushings, but it doesn't have an...

Acceptable Rail Height?

Popping tracks off my 4 roller 40c while skidding is starting to get more than a bit tiresome, so probably need to think about doing something about it. My current rail height is about 2 7/8". There is some pin boss wear, but somebody went through the rollers at some point so I think that's been add...

Re: Definately Oldest Crawler On JDCrawlers

I had a chance to check out the Lombard at the logging museum up in Patton over the summer. The undercarriage arrangement including the chain bottom rollers on those things is very cool. It's a big machine too. I tried mixing in a little hemlock for sugaring a couple years ago. Won't do that again, ...

Nice looking rig! Have you considered an older wheeled tractor to pull that thing, and just yard with the dozer? Decent older tractors in the 50hp range can be had for probably less than a set of pins and bushings. A Farmall M tricycle would look good in front of that thing.

I've pop started my 40c both being pulled and rolling. When I first brought it home it had been sitting in a barn for 10-ish years. Motor was free but turning it over with the battery at the speed the old 6v spins wouldn't quite do the job. Pulled it behind our 40hp Kubota and it fired right up. It ...

Yes, that show is this year. They opened it up to all makes of tractors. I will be there. Scampr, you bringing any thing? No, I didn't bring anything. Just saw your 440 and stopped to check it out. My kids had a blast at the show two years ago, so if it fits the schedule we'll be attending. If I do...

Is the Northeast two-cylinder show happening in Goffstown NH again this summer? If so I might join and bring my 40c down. My kids had a blast a couple years ago.

Scampr, if you recall we chatted for a bit.

I pulled out my first hitch this winter last weekend. I was hoping we'd get some snow but finally gave up. It was sheer ice in the woods, and none of the usual wet spots were really frozen. After going for a ride sideways (even with caulked tracks) I gave up, gonna wait till things dry out. What a t...

Re: Corking a crawler, 450B

A local logger bought 10 350s at one purchase. He had many other John Deere crawlers and skidders. All of his got corked with alternating 2 or 1 short pieces of grouser stock. At the time I was a kid, the people who did the work are gone. What sort of steel are track pads made of? Can they be welde...
