Re: '73 - 450B Crawler/Loader/Hoe Restoration

The problem with a restoration is the hard to find parts are hard for a reason - high wear or easy break items are poor or missing on most machines. Just to have factory gauges is a tall order. So you either need to be prepared to pay or find alternatives. I don’t sell any hard to find items as they...

Yes the plug taken out from the side. The plug in line with the sprocket is for the clutch / pinion shaft retainer bolt.

Re: JD 450 Diesel Starter

350 and 450 Crawlers up to the C series are the same, D may be different and E is for sure. They do however all fit. Also fit from older 440 and 540 skidders.

Right above the sprocket, largest pipe plug. Remove and adjust band, similar to a drum brake adjuster.

Re: What will I have to remove to change a 450C brake band?

Did you adjust the brake bank adjustment. Round wheel behind a pipe plug that you remove from the steering clutch case.

You said you adjusted the lever. You don’t normally need to make any adjustment on the external mechanic linkage.

Best to go deere as new and used are available. Last guy I know that did this drilled his 2 bolt pads to 4 bolt (using our jig) which saved him from buying pads.

Re: 2010 crawler dogs down in reverse

Creeping with the clutch pedal depressed indicates bad bearings in the HLR portion in the transmission. I would pull the top off the transmission and inspect.

Re: I need Help!!! JD 550G Torque Converter

Could be the seal or could be a cracked converter. We did one this past winter and swapped the entire torque converter assembly with a 650G one from a burnt machine we wrecked. The seal is shown in the torque converter assembly page, it’s on the wrong side of the picture. If I find my receipt I’ll t...

Re: 350B and 350C

A few tells - bolts to mount brake assemble on outside of a C series final drive, 3 bolts. I often buy based on picture, so look for this difference first - under the seat, C has a 2 spool valve assembly on top of the rear end, a B series has steering boosters hooked to the steering clutch levers on...

Re: John Deere 440IC Reverser

Pull the shifter on your transmission and then check for wear and movement. The tranny can come out form the back, did so on my own ICD which had a bad second gear.

Re: cleaning/torching winch brake bands?

Best to just fix your oil leak then have your band relined, should be less than $200. Have sanded, torched, ovened. But the oil keeps coming out of the band. When they are very saturated in oil, you can see the oil resurface in 5 minutes.

Re: bolt on track cleats

I think you will be surprised how much traction street pads actually have. Why not try it out first before jumping to the conclusion it needs more traction. We have 450C loaders with both street/loader and growser/dozer pads. It’s only in very muddy conditions there is much difference in traction. O...

Re: 350B Loader Pads

Just cut down the new pads to match. Or send me your new ones and I’ll send some matching used ones back.

Growser pads are more aggressive than street. Your pads are worn enough to not cause you a problem.

Just take it easy when turning and you won’t have issues.

Re: JD 450C Transmission Pump pressure

Check your pressure with both steering clutches pulled back and check for improvement. If you have a steering clutch leak it will cause pressure loss. We have recent had a few machines with clutch vs pump issues.

Re: 450C Right Brake not working

The travel is the steering lever movement.

Are you foot brakes unlocked and moving freely?

The adjuster nut is like old school drum brakes with an auto adjuster. The adjuster should move easily, nothing to rust up as the cavity has oil in it.
