Re: 350B steering brake lever question

Yes... the lever you are looking at should move freely on the shaft. If it doesn't then the brake function will not work properly. It is also nearly impossible to make adjustments with it stuck to the shaft.

Look for the simple first... May just be your shift linkage has come undone.

Re: '68 350B right side final drive removal

About the only option is to beat them loose. I use an air hammer with a blunt end bit and just hammer them until they loosen up. Move the hammer around the circumference of the plates while hammering the crap out of them. I have also used a ball peen hammer and a blunt end punch. I have had a couple...

Re: '89 ish JD 450G steering levers stuck together

There has to be some linkage sticking or binding somewhere. Check all of your pivot points to make sure they are all working freely. Sometimes it doesn't take much to make them do what yours is doing.

Re: 450 b injector pump

It depends on your mechanical ability. If you are good with tools and have a basic knowledge for mechanical repairs then you can look at fixing what is leaking. As old as your machine is however I would recommend taking the pump off and having it re-built. As for where to send it? For you "North Eas...

Re: Undercarriage?

In my opinion?? No... you don't go through multiple sprockets on a given chain. I suspect you have bad pins and bushings as well. Maybe even bad rails. I never had a scenario where I had to replace multiple sprockets on a given undercarriage. I suppose if the machine is in an environment where there...

Re: Considering buying a 450

My opinion??? Well I wouldn't waist my money on a machine that is most likely going to need a lot of work. Auctions are also very fickle and you can either get it cheap or you may have to pay through the nose to own it. Then there is the work involved with repairing heavy equipment. Work that if you...

Re: Suction screen?

As far as I know there is no O-ring. The screen is a preliminary filter in that it only keeps the large debris from entering the system. You will have a primary transmission filter that actually cleans the fluid. So most screens won't have a need to be completely sealed. I have only ever been inside...

Re: Tachometer cable

Yes, the cap over this attaching point will be exactly where you described. Those caps can be stuck pretty tight some times so be prepared for a fight. Hopefully yours won't be that way. But you should be able to remove the cap and then attach a cable vertically. Remember to plug the other one or yo...

Re: Tachometer cable

Yes you can have a cable made to fit the dash tach. I have also seen an adapter that will connect the original floor tach cable to a standard cable to go to the dash mounted tach. Have you looked to see if your engines mounting plate has a caped vertical attachment? Other wise I would take the cable...

Re: Tachometer cable

So... a question or two... Where does the tach attach on the motor going into your machine? Does it attach horizontally or vertically? If you don't know, then the horizontal attachment is a small threaded hole in the rear engine mounting plate ( bell housing ) that is at the very end of the camshaft...

I know this is late and you have probably moved on. Sorry for the late reply and I'm also sorry I'm not going to be much help. It has been forever since I was last around a 450 with transmission issues. But... I suspect you have engagement pressure issues. It could even be something in the clutch pa...

Re: Trans fluid draining into final drive

Okay I'm not sure I'm fully following what you're saying. If your machine is for sure a 350 C, your transmission, steering clutch housings and final drives all share the same oil. When you pour fluid into the transmission it will flow through the bearings and fill the final drives first then the ste...

Re: 350B Loader Control Valve Leaking

You can access those large lines to the control valve by removing a small sheet metal panel that is located underneath the hydraulic tank and righthand box. One corner of this panel is bolted to the corner of the steering clutch housing and the other end bolts to the seat frame. Remove this panel an...
