Electron flow vs Conventional Current
I remembered reading some time ago that the belief that the current flowed from the positive to the negative was in error. So I Googled electron flow and found this: "Conventional Current assumes that current flows out of the positive terminal, through the circuit and into the negative terminal of t...

40C--420C parts interchange
Does anyone know what parts will interchange between a '55 40C and a 420? I need a dash and undercarriage parts for a 40C. I've found a couple of 420 parts crawlers on the Internet but haven't went to look at them yet. Would the finals or transmission interchange? Would be nice to have spares. Brian...

Dad's old 40C
Yeah, I don't believe in the supernatural, but it sure is a huge coincidence that I should start looking just a week or so before it is up for sale on eBay. And, when I decided to let it go, my kid calls up and throws some money in the pot. Apparently he was talking to my nephew. My nephew got the h...

It is dad's crawler---bringing it home Sunday!
Thanks for the reference guys. The seller and I have agreed on a price and I'm going up to Whidbey Island to pick it up Sunday, 11/12. The winch was taken off by the 2nd owner after dad sold it (broken bull gear). The current owner has had it for several years and, as I understand it, did the painti...

Thanks guys
Thanks for the reference. I'm trying to arrange a personal look see. There is no winch on the ebay crawler. The blade and cab are identical to my father's 40C.
I don't see a dent in the cab I expected, nor a repaired crack in the transmission case.
I'll keep you posted.

Wanted--Dad's JD 40 Crawler.
I'm looking for my father's 40C crawler. It had a "Seattle Iron Works" blade and a CarCo winch. The canopy had a round top. Last I heard, about 20 years ago, it was in the Port Angles (Washington state) area. Reply on this message board or email me: brianbrehmeyer@yahoo.com if you've seen something ...

2010 Cheap! Or is it just the blade?
Found this when I did a google search for 2010 JD:
2010 JD Crawler 7 way blade, $500. Papec chopper, EC, $500. IH chopper, barn kept, $650. Call 6 a.m., 6-8 p.m. Gloucester Co., Va. 804-694-5634.
To far for me to go.

Dean, There is no compression release. The year of manufacture sounds correct. There is listing of production dates and serial numbers for the 2010 posted elsewhere on this site. Looking at your picture, I can't see an exhaust stack on it. Could rain water have gotten to your valves? My experience w...

Oil Change Intervals
What are your thoughts on oil change intervals for little used equipment? My 2010 Crawler seldom gets more than 20 hours a year on it. I change the motor and final drive oil in the fall, before putting it away for the winter. Also I lube all the rollers and idlers. Every other year (even numbered ye...
