engine oil in hydraulics
My 40c will do the same thing in very cold weather as it seems it is easier for the pump to suck through the seal than from the cold hydraulic oil, I just let it sit and idle for a period of time before I use it and seems to help, Doesnt do it in summer time, maybe your screen is plugged on suction ...

40c steering
if you are at all mechanically inclinated, you should take the inspection plug out and look in the hole with a good light, compare what is happening in the one that doesnt steer with the one that does steer, probably an adjustment needed??

12v coil
I understand the problem with putting 12v on a 6 volt coil, but dont understand why a resister is needed if the coil is rated at 12v and the battery is 12v, How hot would an internally resisted coil get with a 24watt resister inside the can?

12 volt coil
I am about to learn something. So if you need a resistor with a 12v coil used on 12v system, what is the voltage required on the 12v coil and what is the wattage of the resister that is needed?

12 volt change 420
if it is now 12volt, just buy a 12volt coil, no need for any resistors, now if you use a 6 volt coil on 12 volts , then you need a resistor

water pump bearing lube
If you are going to try to reuse the pump and bearing I have put the whole assembly in a pail of grease then heated it up till grease melts, it will run into bearing to some degree and lube it, Works for me on some things, just an idea

'56 420 oil filler condensation
I also have a 56 420 and to eliminate the moisture problem I went with a 180 thermostat and a jute bag over the rad for winter operation, they should be run at the top of the temp range to eliminate the condensation in my opinion
