1 is good, 3 are better, 5? why not? An MC is coming home...

Well my Dad and I have been bitten by the yellow and green bug. With 3 crawlers sitting on the property, one 420 hopefully coming home soon, we just closed a deal on a 1952 MC, about a 4 hour drive away, which we will be retrieving in the next week or so. Sitting for 15 years, started and ran for a ...

Hey guys, thanks for the info, as always you fellows are a complete wealth of knowledge. I had another look at it today and dug away the mud from the U/C and yanked on the tracks....mmmmm, I could pick them up easily and then I could pull them off center by about 2 inches. Assuming the pins bushings...

Thanks Stan! I checked some of the other pics I have and the dipstick is on the left side, behind the carb. Does this make it phase II? I'll post a few more closeup pics. Anything you see to make you say "RUN AWAY!"? Cheers http://www3.telus.net/radioboy/photo%203.JPG http://www3.telus.net/radioboy/...

Thanks Lavoy, appreciate the help. So it's definitely not a 40 then. I will try to find the upper rollers and arms. Do you have these available? May try to make an offer on it this weekend. It would be a fun project. I think the tracks are different from my 350's which means my track gauge won't wor...

Looking at a 40/420 help with ID and missing carrier roller?

HI guys, Found what I think is a second generation 420, but am still trying to determine. Can't find an ID plate or tag. It is a 5 roller machine with a drawbar, 3 point and PTO and inside mount blade. It looks to be in all original condition except for being converted to 12 volt system. It runs and...

That could be my new tag line.... :P
Nor is it kind to sunglasses as we found out when we loaded my 440IC.

Run down your battery a little with some lights or even just crank it without letting it start. Then when it starts you should see it swing to the right, indicating charge current going into the battery. You will see the same voltage on both sides of the ammeter, as it is shunted with a very low res...

I reread your first post and found a better picture. See above post. If you have mechanical fuel shutdown, you can try it without diode as you have a means to shut off fuel with the lever. If it is solenoid fuel shutoff, then you will need the diode.

Good luck.

Looking for SM2023 service manual and 440 operators manual

Hi guys,

I know someone here must have a scanned copy of the 440IC service manual, SM2023 that could be emailed. Operators manual would be handy as well. Would somebody be so kind as to PM and I'll give you my email.

Please and thank you.

Cheers

Thanks Stan, appreciate the input. Yes, this store has just batteries, and they have been around for years and know their product. I trust them to do the right things. I also have an alternate energy business and work with batteries regularly. I have a complete 48VDC backup system for the whole hous...

I read your post in the other thread and I think you may have the diode in backwards. Should allow current into the ALT, but not out. If it has a white band on it, that should be closest to the ALT terminal. If you can, post a pic of the diode for us. Here's a pic I found that is better than mine. h...

It's alive..440IC is running after 4 years of sitting

It was pretty easy getting it going. Cleaned out the carb and made sure it was good to go. The ignition system was new, but the points had a film on them so cleaned them and finally had spark. Then...after 2 trips into town to get a new battery...first one was dead out of the gate, second one still ...
