Snow-Cut Pads for my '99 450G

Any leads on best price/availability? This damn popping is now more than I can tolerate after this big storm (SALT rails, new sprockets installed about 200 hours ago---didn't have enough $$ to swap out the pads then).

Re: Value time

I was very happy to find my 1999 450G (6-way, ROPS, Sweeps, 5 gang ripper, brush rake) w/ 3000 hours for $18K. It had original sprockets and rails, so I did spend some $$$ on new SALT rails and sprockets. I'd watched the price go down incrementally from $35K to $25K...took $20K with me, but caught t...

Snow Pads (pads with cut-outs)...1999 450G

That chain/sprocket BANG drives me nuts...anyone got a best-price on new pads with cut-outs? My pads are worn anyways, and not too keen on rebuilding my old ones. Thanks!

I wonder how many supposedly rusted tight clutches were actually swelled tight.
Congrats on your repair! What caused the swelling---water, oil? Wondering how that will affect the integrity of the clutch material?

Re: Almost got hurt BAD!

When I bought my dozer, the guy who I hired to deliver it almost did the very same thing. He somehow panicked...I swear...one more inch over the edge would have tumbled it too. Thankfully, when he messed up, he had both feet on the brake! Was able to get up on the flatbed, drop the throttle, and get...

Ordered an 8000 psi grease gun and another lube n lock coupler last night, would it be better if the track was not on the ground when tensioning the track?
Hmmm....just a regular grease gun has always worked for me; with each pump of the handle I can see the tracks tension.

Re: John Deere 550 (straight) questions

Good question. Whenever I hear 550, I think 'bad transmissions'. Saw someone give his away after tranny frustration.

I could see MAYBE 10 with on/off load; heat/cool down periods in between.

Re: 1997 JD 450G opinions

Anyone with experience on these have opinions or concerns about this series dozer? I bought a 1999 450G/6-way/ROPS/3 shank/with a brush rake some 7 years ago (3000 hr on working meter) that needed chains and sprockets. Other than oil/filters, that is all it has needed. Absolutely love this little r...

Not too familiar with your rig, but most engines have enough room to get a bar in there with the starter out...hopefully enough to see if you can pry it over a little.

If that makes noise but doesnt turn over the motor that would tell me the motors stuck right? Ill ge...

Been following this thread...nice job! Boy, lot's of planning and forethought since the 'parts store' is so far away! Is that your daughter helping out? Or is she just waiting for you to get it done so she can drive it? ;-)
