Hmmm. Never thought of that. Tried to research it but found nada. Mine is a 2000 model...never saw a series 1,2, or 3 either.

Re: hours worked before heavy wear ?

Looking at mid to late 80's JD 450's I know alot depends on how, where and conditions it was worked but...... At what point does the hours of use become a big concern ? 3,000 hrs. , 5,000 hrs ? There has to be a ballpark number where steering clutches, transmissions and other internal start to wear...

Any idea what caused the crack? That may certainly bear on the best repair method. For instance, if the crack was from an impact and not from type of constant stress factor, JB Weld may just be your answer.

The existing holes are not even close to the bar that supports the weight of the machine. Is usin...

Berco SALT a couple years back also. No problems. However, if done again, I would go with JD sprockets because the finish grinding on the Berco sprockets were not pretty; rough edges in the saddles...not smooth at all. I had to dress them down with a grinder.

Just a thought...can't you remove the linkage, find the slop points, drill them out to fit tight with new pins?

Re: working in the snow

I am new to this bulldozer thing I have purchased a 1981 450c and have used it in the fall before the snow came. My question is when I used it the first time in the snow I was getting some spring compressing and a bang, is this caused by the snow packing up on the sprockets......should I loosen the...

Re: rock guards.

Hi Al, If you already have full rock guards, relief holes would help as the others have said. They work well on excavators and fellerbuchers. If your homeade skirts are heavy duty enough they might work. I think they should be added to both sides of the track frame as rock guards are. I wonder thou...

loose tracks will also pack with snow,be really careful about popping off a track,a snow shoe setup is the real fix,or Lavoy's "relief" notch! So, with snow around the corner again, and no relief notches cut, my idea is to make "skirts" for the outside bottoms of the track area to prevent the snow ...

I take it you got pillared chains and standard grouser pads and no roller rock guards on a G series and or newer Dozer .When the snow is just the right temp it can be a pain in the A$$ .The nice thing is you can't kill that 450G drive train but the sprockets will complain like crazy. How old are th...
