JD 440ICD Fuel Filter Cross Ref Number

Post by thomastractorsvc » Mon Jan 21, 2008 8:55 pm

Does any one have the cross ref for the Fuel Filter JD Part #5196048. No one can find it, they keep telling me at NAPA they can only find the Oil Filter. I know they have a cross but even my JD Heavy Equipment guys tell me they no longer list one but can sell me the oil filter.

Lavoy,

I picked up my filter today NAPA 3513. It is about 2 inches shorter than the sock style filter am I missing something?

Lavoy,

Is it a FF961 ofr FF916? The measurements seem to be closer to the FF916.

Rob,

I am not looking at my fuel filter but I used the same NAPA 3513 one that you have. Make sure it is stamped with that number on the filter. If it is, it will work.
Could have had the wrong sock filter in there.

just put a tape to the sock filter it is hard to get an accurate measure due to its condition what I did get is - Width is just over 3" the inside diameter is 1" and Height is 5 3/4". The NAPA filter is basically the same except it is not a sock and is only 4 1/4" tall.

My mistake on the Hastings number it is a FF909 which crosses to a Baldwin PF916 its description is almost a dead on at 3" x 1 1/16" x 5 5/8"

For all I know I have the wrong canister housing on the tractor, although it is mounted up in the right spot. My concern was I did not want to "jack around" in the cold with diesel soaked hands trying to get he thing back together and ruin a $10 filter to find out it did not work since it took 2 days to get it from NAPA.

Yesterday was not so cold and I went to work trying to resolve the filter issue. Ended up with pulling the hood and the valve cover by the time I was done. I had to blow out all of the fuel system from the filter on.

The NAPA filter is the right one I was missing the stop inside the canister that's why such a big filter I image. The previous owner tried a fix with a couple of washers. They were lying in the bottom of the canister. I am going to order a spin on conversion for the fuel filter for the next time. I am going to order an oil filter adapter also. I found FLEETFILTER.COM and can order the conversions and filters for about $50. This morning I am going to NAPA to check on their prices and pick up some oil and a couple of brass fittings.

Like most of the repairs that were done on my JD 440 it was cobbled together. I thought I had all of them fixed but I still find one now and then. I am surprised that I had not any problems until last weekend with the fuel filter. I have put on close to 40 or so hours of real work and the canister had debris just floating around.

About three weekends ago I replaced the exhaust manifold gasket and re-sealed the valve cover. I checked the valves and the lines and found a return line loose, then I cleaned up the engine area to get the excess leaked oil off it. It would have been nice to have found the fuel filter issue then since I had everything all taken apart and cleaned up. Well hopefully I will be good for a while after I reseal the valve cover. Since I do have the hood off I am going to change out the hoses if I can get them.

When I replaced the fuel filter on my 440ICD a couple years ago I used a Wix 33080. I don't remember where I got that crossover now. It was bigger and longer than the filter that I removed so the spring held it up against the top better.

Lavoy,

On Sunday I went to the NAPA store here locally to compare prices for the listed items. FleetFilter.com is actually a NAPA store in TX. They ship by UPS. I made an order today, I will tell you how long it takes to get.

Changing over to modern readily available filters would be a slick deal.

Got everything today was waiting on the porch from the UPS man. Everything is NAPA. Filters and housings all match, even the oil by pass filter has the small orifices and all. Better than expected especially at the price. Will definitely do business with them again.

I bought a NAPA oil filter base #4764 for my JD440 ICD but I haven't gotten around to mounting it yet. I was considering putting it on the right side of the crawler where there seems to be more room. I would be interested to know where and how you end up mounting yours.

I bought both set ups one for the oil the other the fuel. When I change the Oil I plan on mounting it. I was going to remove the oil canister and replace it same with the fuel fiter. The fuel filter looks like I can use the existing mount, the oil filter looks like I will have to use a piece of angle but not for sure yet.
