JD440 final drive housing casting numbers

I am repairing my JD440 ICD and had to replace one of my final drive housings. In selecting a replacement I noticed that some housings have a casting number of T10004T and some have a casting number T19406T. There does not seem to be any pattern to this, at least on my crawlers. Of course I have no idea how many times in the past the finals may have been swapped with other machines. Sometimes one crawler has T10004T on one side and T19406T on the other. Sometimes T10004T is on the right side and sometimes it is on the left.

I tried to look at more crawlers, but the fender support bracket comes across to perfectly cover up the casting numbers. I am very interested to understand what the different cast numbers mean; but it is more of an academic inquisitiveness. I am not curious enough to want to stand out in the snow to try and remove a bunch of rusted fender bolts. So I am turning to the experts. What is the significance of the final drive cast numbers? Are there only two variations?

According to the parts books both of those castings were used through serial # 456801. I found T10004T in the 440IC book and T19406T in the 440ICD book. I think that the only difference between the IC and ICD cases were the bull and pinion gears 55 Vs 56 teeth respectively.
After serial # 456802 the cases were a little over an inch thicker with more webbing cast in for more strength. These had a longer final drive shaft but otherwise had all the same internals I think (also required the obsolete shallow dish drive sprocket to compensate for the wider final cases to keep the 48 inch track width.

I never realized that the numbers in parenthesis in the parts book descriptions were casting numbers. Very helpful. So if I understand you correctly, since I took out the guts from the replacement housing, including the bull gear and pinion gear, the two housings should be interchangeable and I should be good to go. Plus my curiosity is satisfied.

The number in parentheses in a parts book if it follows the description is the part number that was substituted for. The number in the left column is the most current part number when the manual was printed, the number after the description is the superseded number.

i have late model 440ic ser#457265 my final cast #T12912T my splines are wore off on corners on axle and bull and wear on seal area on axle any way to fix?

Depending on how bad the wear is in the splines, you will likely have to replace both.

would complete final drive from 1010 bolt on to a late # 440 or is axle splines diffrent ?

It will most likely bolt on, but I think the axle is different so sprocket may be out of position.
