1010 dozer

Post by SmallTime » Tue Oct 11, 2005 1:28 am

Hi guys, new here. Great site by the way. I just picked up a little 1010 diesel dozer. I cant find a serial# anywhere but on the engine, its # 28859. Can anyone tell me what year it is? It seems to be in pretty good shape but there are lots of nickle dime things to do. I also have some track adjuster and steering clutch issues on one side but havent gotten into them just yet. Im sure Ill be by to pick your brains from time to time, but for starters Im having trouble finding a service manual. Any ideas on finding one and what would it cost?

Tears still well up when I think of my 1010 getting loaded on that guys trailer. That number could very well be the serial number. THere are alot of hints that give at least where it fits into the range of serial number breaks. Is the shifter on the dash or floor? If it has a reverser, is the lever bent or straight? Does the reverser oil filter have a housing with a neck that goes up intot he reverser or is it a cover with 4 bolts?

1010 parts manuals are easy to get on eBay, service a little tougher but available. I bought a re-print from a wrecker. Be aware there are a number of different operator's manuals depending the actual serial number. A parts book will tell you the number of the required op man.

I got alot of great information from the site! Be forewarned these crawlers are addictive.

I am no paper collector, but there is a nice original 1000 crawler manual on eBay right now. Item no: 7552857994

I have bought lots of stuff from this guy.

Haha, thanks guys. This one has the shifter on the floor and doesnt have a reverser. It does have a 6 way blade tho if that makes any difference. The guy I got it from said he thought it might be a 350 blade someone put on it. He also said it has 350 tracks. Aparantly he took these tracks off his 350 when he upgraded to wide tracks, I didnt think they would work but there is no binding popping or unusual wear that I can tell. In fact the rails seem to have near 0 wear and the sprockets have lots left too. It was mainly used to punch trails and such around his cabin, so very light use.

I have a parts book so the service manual isnt a must but I think it might still be pretty handy since I dont know too much about this machine. Ill go check on that Ebay item.

Service manual is "a good thing"

Really, it is a must if you are going to tear into it.

I purchased the manuals for my 1010 from the John Deere Bookstore: http://www.jdtechinfo.com/. Alot cheaper than the ones I have found on ebay.

Power 6 way was a factory option on a 1010, it is most likely factory.
350 rails are common swap, but if the sprockets have not been rerimmed, in the long run, it is going to wear on something.
