440 deere crawler

Post by gdive » Sun Aug 31, 2008 10:37 pm

I have a 440 diesel crawler that has water leaking in the oil. It has the wrong sprockets on it and someone removed the reverser, the operating lever and the linkages. The engine ran when it was brought to me. Everything else worked, the transmission jumps out of gear easily.

My questions, do I need to remove the skid plate to pull the engine? The last bolts I can see are just above the oil pan. Is there another bolt or two below these? Could a reverser be found for sale anywhere? How about the sprockets?

Thanks

Not sure if the oil pan will hit the skid pan or not, look closely at that.
Reversers are around, but can be pricey. All you need are the internals and the linkage, you can use your existing center section.

I pulled my engine, radiator, and reverser all in 1 piece, without pulling the skid plate. Once teh front is gone, there are only a few bolts with those L shaped brackets and she will come out. Warning, it is really really heavy that way. BTW, mine was a GM deisel, not sure about the gas model.

i have some reverser parts. Have everything minus spider gears and clutches. I used spider gears to make a direct shaft and do away with the reverser.
