1010 Crawler Loader track frame

Post by JAJ » Sun Dec 14, 2008 7:14 pm

Does anyone have experience with welding a support plate on the inside of the front rails on the track frame. I'm talking about the area where the front idler bracket wears on the rail. My track frame, in this area, has spread out about 1/4" from normal. I have heated it and bent it back into position and am trying to decide if welding a support plate or maybe a piece of thick wall angle iron (on edge to form a triangle) would be a good plan. Currently there is 1.5" of clearance on each side from the rail to the front idler. I'm thinking of cutting this down to about 3/4" after adding the support piece. Would this hurt anything, like catching more rocks etc etc???
Thank you,
Jim
