Maiden voyage!

Post by Lavoy » Thu Dec 25, 2008 10:29 am

Took the new wreck, I mean 1010, for her maiden voyage last night. Made a few trips up and down the ditch in the deep snow. Only problem is it thinks it is a 350, only runs good on 3 cylinders. Really tries to run on the 4th, but just can't seem to smooth out. Tried various timing settings, to no avail. Looks like injector work, darn.

Would some form of injector cleaner maybe help that problem somewhat?

I have some Stanadyne additive in there now, but typically on a diesel injector, once they are bad, they need to be repaired/replaced.

Speaking of Maiden Voyage. You may have been hearing about the snow storms in the Northwest. It is very unusual to have 2-3 ft of snow out here. I was a little worried about sliding sideways, but my wife got some pictures of my 1010 at work. I'm proud of the machine. It seemed to LOVE the cold. Runs better and smoother (go figure) The crawler had no trouble what-so-ever with 2ft of snow. it pushed it like it wasn't even there. Here is a link to some pictures.

Yeah I know I am a little warped, but a snowfall like that would be the best Christmas present I could get.

Going to hang the moldboard back on tomorrow, install the skid shoes and snow wings and see if I can get the kid's snow hill started.

Well, truth be told, (not to my wife) i DID take a little skid sideways - about 20-30 feet. Right toward a drop of about 100 feet at about a 20 degree grade. But i slid on pavement until i hit some dirt, and then i was back in the saddle. A little scary, but i was ready to jump! :)

Is that what the "shoes" and "wings" are for?
