Moving a busted MC

Post by Mr. B » Sat Mar 07, 2009 7:19 pm

Could of cried as I tried to nurse my dozer across the lawn into the garage to begin tear down on the worn final drive, locked it up. Sprocket shifted jumping trac. Thought all I had to do is lossen the adjuster to give free play. That only resulted in throwing the trac. First for me. After some swearing got it back on and tighted it up a litle more. Tried agin and managed to back several more feet and broke the lower case as the sproket gave out even more. Lawn is getting soft as the rain is coming down and need to drag, lift pull it about 30feet to the drive way and push it in the garage. I thought a couple of floor jacks on plywood might work. Any Ideas Please. Mr. B

I am not sure that I understand the whole situation, but I would not try to move the crawler under power if you have a problem in the final drive gears. You can however use the engine and hydraulics to lift the blade. If it will still freewheel and you cannot for some reason get behind it to push, I would try winching it.

Get a chain and some type of winch. Even a basic cable winch should pull the crawler. After you move the short distance that the cable will allow, block the track, shorten the chain, extend the winch, and winch some more. I have winched a number of JD440s up onto trailers this way. The advantages are that the crawler will follow the cable - unlike pushing it - and you will not have to have a vehicle stuck in front of it when you go into the garage.

If your problem is that the track will not freewheel, you might just remove the track and pull the crawler on the rollers (over plywood or boards if you like).

Moved MC Dozer

After some heavy rain last night hooked a chain to my big chevy 4X4. I have a 40' wide black top drive way. It rolled several feet and stopped but the grass and mud filled the tracs so at a idle she pulled all the way in front of the bay I needed. Started her and spun 90 degrees and drove rite in like she knew she was getting fixed. Scouts tomarow will granb another floor jack and my eng. crane from work and start tearing it done. Thanks Michael
