D4d weight probluems

Post by Mr. B » Mon Apr 13, 2009 4:27 pm

Allot of you guys and gals out there have a vast knowledge. My MC is laid up waiting to get fixed. I came across a forsale add fo a D4d with a 6 way blade. I have a tri axle goose kneck that can haul 5 tons. Any idea what a D4d weighs and at $8500.00 is there anything particle that they had trouble with? If Im lucky Yamaha will give me the grant for a 65 hrs Case International 4WD so that will handle the bull work of the ATV trails and the MC can retire to play work only. Thanks Mr. B Lorraine NY

I couldn't find spec sheets for a D4D, but did find the spec sheet for a D4C and the operating weight is between 8 and 9 tons.

Are you sure your tri-axle goose neck will only handle 10,000 GVW? I use a two axle bumper pull trailer that is rated at that.
JD440-ICD loader; JD440-IC bulldozer; JD440-ICD backhoe; JD440-I backhoe; JD440-I tractor; + five recumbent JD440-ICs

Most tri-axles have 3-7,000 axles, it should be higher than that. My fifth wheel has 3-7's, our bumper pull has 2-7's.

Since the GVW rating of the trailer includes the trailer weight, maybe he is deducting the trailer weight to determine the "safe" load capacity of 5 tons. Some of those steel deck gooseneck trailers weigh darn near 5000 pounds. Still, should be able to put up to 7 tons on it safely if a tri-axle.

The reality is that the GVW ratings are conservative and those trailers can usually handle more weight. You just wouldn't want DOT to take a hard look at it.

goosekneck

Post by Mr. B » Thu Apr 16, 2009 11:34 am

The probluem I have with my goosekneck is that even thou I replaced all the hubs, bearings, backinging plates w/new shoes all 3 axles braking I still have house trailer axles & Tires. It is acutualy a homemade converted equitment trailer. For $500.00 I couldnt go wrong. My MC dosent weigh hardly anything but when I hauled 1800 galons of water It felt like it pretty much was all she wanted to take along with my Chevy deisel so kept the weight at 5 tons what someone said it the water and plastic take weighed. There is a nice 350 down from me that has been sitting in the woods for 3 years with bad steering clutchs. Im going to see if I can work a deal on that if once fixed will work with him around the farm if he was to sell it to me. I finaly got the sproket of the MC so with 50 degree temps coming this weekend will tear it down to see how bad the final drive is. I cracked a chunk out of the bottom, but believe with my new miller welder can fix it back up. Thanks for your input. We still have 3 feet of snow in the woods 37.5feet since October according to the local weather man. Thank God for thaws. If anyone knows of a parts machine in Up State NY keep me posted. Thanks Mr. B Lorraine NY
