TIMING A 1953 40C

HAD TO REPLACE OIL PUMP KNOW CANT GET TIMMING RIGHT GOT RUNNING BUT NO POWER AND POPPING THOUGHT CARB ANY ONE KNOW HOW TO DO THIS

Seems to me if you don't have the pump timing tool, the process goes like this.
Engine on TDC compression, slot in the drive gear parallel to the crankshaft, narrow side of the gear to the outside.
Or, you can just time the engine, if you are running now, sounds like it is only off slightly.
