440ic water pump
I noticed that there was some sloppy play in the fan shaft. i took off the fan blade and the water pump. the bearings are out of the shaft at the water pump. i pulled off the fan blade and the belt pulley. next the manual said to pull out the retainer and press out the shatf to free up the impeller. but problem. i can not get the retainer out i put heat to it and penetrating oil to it and still nothing. and the best part is that it broke off at the housing and i can not grip it with anything anymore. so what next???? how can i get it out to replace the bearings and seal???? thanks for any and all help.

Yeah that is what i did. i pressed out the bearing and as i thought the bearing broke in half and there is still half of it in there i am guessing the part that the retainer is holding in there. and yeah the retainer will not come out yet. i guess i am down to cutting out the rest of the bearing or just buying another water pump. does anybody have a water pump for a 1958 440ic??

ok i will keep you in mind. thanks . i think that i may have my fixed. all i have to do is cut the old bearing out and put it all back together. i got a new shaft and bearing and seal. but the only thing that i am stuck on is that the repair manual tells me to put the SLINGER on the shaft about 1 1/2 " from the end of the shaft. but my parts book does not tell me of any slinger on the shaft. the same picture is in my manual as it is in the parts but with the exception of the slinger. i did not see anything on the old shaft that was not on that picture. but i dont know what the slinger is. i would think that the slinger would be the impeller maybe but it is on the picture as the impeller. i dont know please shed some light on it. thanks
