Have a 40c with hole in dash, there is an off position and a "g "and a "d "position that is cast into dash what is this for? This crawler has sat awhile and will not steer what should I try first to fix? Is there a manual for the blade, it has a deere tag on it. thanks bob

Bob,
Years ago tractor manufacturers had a lot of different fuels to
accomodate.Gasoline,kerosene,distillate and others.Some of the
machines of the 30"s 40's and 50's would run on just about anything
that was combustable.Start on gasoline and run on kerosene or
distillate so there was on some machines a switch or level to select
which fuel and tank to draw from. The G stands for gasoline and
the D stands for distillate but my guess is your machine ran on
gas only and that the casting was generic for all tractors of
the period.Hope this helps and welcome to the club of
back in the day.JimAnderson
