420C prices

Post by jdcollector » Mon Jun 29, 2009 12:07 pm

Howdy everyone. I'm new to the Messageboard and looking at purchasing my first crawler. I know of a gentleman who has a 420C phase III crawler that he and his sons started to restore and did not finish. The engine has been sent off and completely gone through, the tracks have new pins and bushings, he has a 5-way blade (?), 3-pt. hitch, and it is a 5 roller. The tractor is completely disassembled and nothing has been sand blasted except for the engine, which is already primed and assembled. He is asking $3,500 for the tractor. I believe that this is a good price but I would like to make sure that it is worth it. Any input is greatly appreciated and thanks for all of the input ahead of time.

That is what I was thinking but just unsure. I have been looking at prices on-line and in some magazines and they have been about the same for something that was already together and running but not restored... I'm guessing the money in the engine and tracks is worth it

If the hitch is correct and original, you are buying a 3PT, and the guy is throwing in a crawler.

Since I am new to this you will have to tell me what you are calling the "hitch". If you have a picture it would even be better. :D

The 3PT hitch is what I am referring to. I don't have a pic that I can come up with off the top of my head. There might be one in the pics pages on the main site.

Thank you for the information. I'll see what I can come up with. I did not know that 3pt hitches were that rare on crawlers. I'm taking it that the top link is what is worth the most though. They seem to be hard to come by on most tractors.

I don't know if they are particularily rare, but they are desireable. The toplinks are kind of scarce, hence the high prices you often see on them.

Thank you for all the great information. I believe that I will soon be the owner of my very first crawler. I'm sure that there will be many more post since I will have to put it together without haveing taken it apart. Thanks again for all the help.

Easier to just put it together than to have to take it apart, find parts, fix it, then put it back together. I don't think you'll be sorry.

You should paint all the pieces while it's apart.

Well, I know that I don't have to try to take it apart but it is going to be fun to try and figure out if it is all there when we do go pick it up. I'm trying to figure out the best way to check it off as it gets loaded. Also, what the best way is to carry it all home on the trailer...
