got the 420 home
got the crawler and gave her a bit of a work out found a couple of issues. firstly the right steering clutches slip under heavy load , im guessing they need replacing. secondly the right brake band needs relining. the rear sprockets and chains lookvery good very little wear on them. i did notice there are no upper track rollers or any provisions for mounting them is this normal on a 420. and is there any other place other than john deere where i can get a service manual i have the original operators manual but it doesnt go into tear down info

only 5 roller crawlers had the upper idler..
the service manuals come up on ebay once in a while...if you know your way around machinery these little crawlers aren't that ccomplicated.. you just have to perfect getting those bolts with 50 years of rust out
the steering clutches might only need to be adjusted.
hope this helps and good luck
