Button head question 2

Post by stmftr395 » Tue Apr 27, 2010 11:35 am

Thanks for all the advice with my previous grease fitting question. I will use the button head fittings as called for by the parts manual. Todays question is concerning the button head grease gun fitting. I have noticed that the button head fitting I purchased from the local JD dealer is to large to access the fitting on at least the upper idler. It is to large to fit on due to the "eyebrow" as described by Stan Disbrow Do I need a different end for my grease gun? If so where would I find one? Thanks again for the advise. Mark

When you grease the upper idler, you remove the bolt that is directly in line between the eyebrow ends. This is the pressure relief so that you do not blow the seals out. Fill with grease until it comes out this hole, then put the bolt back in.

Hi,

There are multiple sizes for these style fittings, usually the larger the machine the larger the button used, as it were. I have three different sizes of this type of gun fitting, and the small crawlers use the smallest one of the three.

Last time I wanted one of these for someone, NAPA had them. That was years ago now, so I can't be sure NAPA still carries them, but that'd be my first stop.

My second stop would be to a parts store that catered to the heavy stuff, as these fittings were used on other things, like dump trucks.

Later!

Stan
