Hood Holes

Post by Al » Thu Apr 29, 2010 7:52 am

I just purchased a project 440. Do all the 440 hoods have 3 access doors? One for gas, one for radiator, the other front one for? The third isn't shown in my manuals, is this hood the correct hood for the 440IC?

It is if you have a hole in the middle lower portion of your dash. If so, you have what used to be a pilot touch crawler, they had a third hole to put oil in the power steering pump.
It is also possible you have a tractor hood on your crawler.

Thought that third door was for the hydraulic reservoir? Mine has two doors in the front and one in the rear.

Sitting in the seat the front left is for the radiator , the right front is for the hydraulic oil resivoir and of course the rear is for the fuel tank.

My 1959 #445807 440IC with 831 has the same hood set up as Chuck.

So it seems I may have the wrong hood. The reservoir on mine is next to the reverser on the right side. Has the 602 blade. The extra hole does make it easier to get to the nuts to unbolt the front of the hood.

Does it have a hole in the dash, lower center with a bolt hole on each side?

I didn't notice any unusual dash holes.

I finally got it pulled into the shop last weekend, got the blade off and now have it on jack stands. It seems guides on the left front roller are broken off though. I assume the well worn frame and wobbley front idler caused this but who knows. They are still there but are basically now 2 big washers that just sort of float on the roller axle. Guess I'll be looking for at least on used roller, haven't checked them all out yet. Still trying to get the master pin out on the left side (none have the snap rings). My next investment is a torch....

Fortunately the tracks seem to be in decent shape. It looks like they were redone at some point in thier life. Measured 5 links center to center on both tracks. 33 - 33 1/8". Rails are 3 1/8", couldn't find any specs on these so don't know how worn they are. This is the reason I'm willing to work the ol popper. Now if I could only get a couple of pins out and find another roller...

If I find my old digital camera this weekend I'll take some picks to show and tell.
