Ripper from a 440

Post by Roger440IC » Thu Jun 10, 2010 12:01 am

I just picked up ripper that a friend took off a 440. It's solid but has quite a bit of rust and has seen some modifications to hold thinner 1" replacement shanks so needless to say there aren't any markings on it. I'd like to identify which model it is and maybe find a manual/parts catalog on it. Were there a few popular rippers used on these machines?
Thanks, Roger

If it is the original ripper for the 3 point hitch (5 shanks), it is likely a JD model 24 Scarifier.

Thanks for the reply and photo. I forgot to mention that I don't have a 3-point and that it came off a machine that was set up for a backhoe with the 4 pin connection so it has 2 hydraulic cylinders and a single spool control as well. Was there a common ripper used for the 4-pin set-up?

Not sure if that ripper was ever shown from the factory on a 440, but you see them on 1010's and 350's. Don't know the model number, but yes, it sits on the hoe mounts and connects to the aux hyds.

Thanks for setting me straight guys. My ripper looks very similar to the one that Tigerhaze posted a few years back that was on his 350. It also kinda looks like a 35. Roger
