Did Deere ever make a ROPS for the 440IC?
Have seen many different setups and all look different.
Is my only choice to build from scratch?

Hi,
Basically, no. The ROPS was a late 1960's idea and so didn't show up on the 440 at all. The earliest JD crawlers to get one was the 350 and 450 lines.
There was a push in the early 1970's to make available ROPS for older tractors, but those offerings were pretty much unavailable by 1980.
I don't recall ever seeing any offerings for older crawlers at the time, though, just ones for wheel tractors. By which I mean a two-post ROPS not a four-post ROPS like a crawler would use.
This, of course, explains why there are so many home-made ones seen!
later!

Be aware that most homemade "ROPS" are just shields to keep branches and bucket loads from coming down on the operator. They are not Roll Over Protection. You have to build a substantial design AND attach it to a substantial point on the crawler, to keep from getting crushed in a roll over.
