Tips or tricks welcome!
After a day of changing the trans and final drive fluids in my 1010c loader per the operators manual, I ran the machine and after I shut it down it wouldn't start up again. The starter tries to turn the engine over but it sounds like the solenoid isn't fully engaging the fly wheel. Looks like I have to remove the fuel filters to get the starter out. How about the slot cut in the frame to get at the lower starter nut? Looks like a pain in the but! Tips or tricks welcome!! Did I mention the loader is all the way down, another obstacle.
This thread below is for replacing the starter on a 2010 diesel loader, but I would think many of the issues/tricks are common to both:

66- Before you start taking the starter out try a new battery. I had this issue with a 4020 this month. Heard a clicking sound and engine wouldn't turn over. I used jumper cables and my pickup to try to start it. Same clicking noise. Next I charged the battery overnight, in the morning same clicking noise. I removed the starter and took it to a repair shop. It all checked out good. Came back home and re-installed starter. Last resort went to O'Reillys auto parts and bought a new battery. 4020 started right up and hasn't missed a beat since. Just my .02 cents but it could save you alot of time and headache. Al Z
I definitely concur with that statement- I'm assumign you have already tried a fresh battery.
You will probably also find that if you starter was bad, that your machine will turn over much more quickly with a new starter. The brushes on my old starter were so worn that it turns over about twice as fast as it used to, even with a new battery on the old starter.

Probably equally suspect are the battery cable ends. You can clean the connections at the starter and frame but they are less likely culprits than the connections that attach to the battery. Especially if you have bolt on aftermarket cable ends. Remove them. Wire brush the ends of the cable wire strands. Sand or brush the insides of the connectors and the battery terminal posts. Then try the cables with that charged battery. Gil
