2010 track master pins
2010 track master pins
In the process of steerinc clutch rebuild on my 2010 dozer, I have found what I think are the master links on the track. one pin has the dimpple in the center and then right next to it is a pin with a mushroom head. why would this be ,and which one should I try to remove?
Thanks,
Thanks,

The master pin has the mushroom head and C-clip, like Lavoy said. My pin mushroom head also was not round, but flattened on one side to fit in the groove to keep from spinning.
Look at my site "2010 repair" and see how I removed the pins. I derailed the tracks, layed them on the side and juiced up with penetrating oil. Get a punch the correct diameter (about 3/4 inch) and drill a 2 X 4 block to hold the punch upright. Hammer away safely with a sledge.

201 track pin removal
All credits to "PAMMARK" for the following:

I have been juicing up the mastepins for the last week. My neighbor (a machinist) made me the 3/4" punch out of hardened steel. I drilled a 3/4" hole in a 2X4 chuck directly over the pin location. C-clamp the board, insert the pin and whack away.

About 3-4 good swings with the sledge and . . .

There she goes. The master pins popped out, Slicker than You Know What. (Chuck thinks it has something to do with an owl!) The 2X4 is thick enough to support the punch and keep the pinkies out of the way. The C-clamps hold the board directory over the taget. All safe and sound. And I didn't even learn a new language that would blush a sailor.

After removing 2010 master pins the more traditional way (i.e. scaring the crap out of the assistant holding the pin), I think I will try the method shown. It looks like it works really slick.Pammark wrote:Get a punch the correct diameter (about 3/4 inch) and drill a 2 X 4 block to hold the punch upright. Hammer away safely with a sledge.

My brother
I actually had him hold it with tongs at a relatively safe distance but it is pretty hard to get a straight solid shot on the punch with the sledge (holding it with tongs) so I will go with Mark's suggestion in the future.
