Need inexpensive hauler from Connecticut to Pennsylvania

Post by Gil » Fri Oct 14, 2011 9:37 am

I just bought a JD440ICD with a Model 51 backhoe. Always wanted one. Now my challenge is to move it down to Gettysburg, PA from Oxford, CT; about 300 miles.

I only have a bumper pull 10,000 GVW trailer and this unit will weigh closer to 13,500 lb. I wouldn't mind hauling it if it was local, but I don't think I want to chance going across state lines into NY and CT.

Any suggestions on how I could locate a hauler? or if you know one, they can call me at 717-337-2280. Gil

Have you tried Willy? That is the hauler that Lavoy has recommended in the past and if he is in your area he can give you a really good deal. he is out of Nebraska but travels nationally. However I am not sure if he goes that far northeast, and if you need it done immediately it can be tough to get him quickly on a set schedule.

I have also used a firm called MachineryLink to move large equipment- they are basically a transport broker that arranges with local haulers. However they are not very cheap. I used them mainly because they were affiliated with an auction I purchased a piece of machinery from and I figured I would have a little more leverage that way with scheduling.

Let me know if you need either of those numbers.

Steve, on your suggestion, I called Rich Jennings and he seemed like a really decent guy. He had a good price, possibly because he makes this run frequently and could double a load. I look forward to working with him - and to getting my new JD440 backhoe! I hope the swing cylinder is in good shape. Gil
