Pretty much all diesel 1010's smoke til they warm up, just a function of a pre-cup engine.

Would that smoke be blue? I thought it would be white or black

So I checked the GP's and found 3 were NG.
I stole 3 from a spare engine I have that are good and now have 4 functional GP's and the dozer starts about 1000% better.
Still very smoky but this is a first step in fettling this machine.

blue is oil white is not firing right the weaker the clys. are the longer it will take for all clys. to fire all the way

New glowplugs, longish glow cycle - 3 minutes +-, 2 batteries, liberal use of the primer pump and longish crank cycle= Start up at 20*. Use the tools JD provided it should work.
