420C Oil Bath icing

Post by WyoCat » Sun Mar 04, 2012 9:24 pm

I have a 1957 420C with a No 61 blade. Used to push snow. Works great and can push a blade full of snow at light angle in 5th gear. Here is my problem. The cup at the bottom of the oil bath air cleaner gets a build up of water in it. When pushing snow below freezing this slushes up and has even frozen solid a time or two. I do not see snow going down the intake pipe. I do not see massive amounts of water and snow on the outside of the air cleaner. I know it has to be going down the intake or leaking in around the band clamp and seaping into the bowl. Has anyone else ever experienced this and what are your suggestions to resolve this? Thanks in advance!

Sounds like "snow dust" down the intake as you described. How about a temporary snorkle in place of the breather cap that brings the intake toward the rear of the hood? Some pvc pipe duct tape and a bungee cord and at least youd know if it works.
