440 value
440 value
Can someone give me the value of a 440 gas crawler? It is a 67 I believe, the first industrial model it runs great and looks great it has a canopy, fans and lights. The only issue is left steering I have a seal seeping and it will leak on the steering clutch and let it slip I just don't have time or the shop to fix. When I bought it I paid 3700 so I thought I would ask the same. Hey, just guess....Blueford
First of all 440Is were only made from 1958 to 1960. I am not a good judge of value for yours as I have under $5000 in the three of mine. But I did drive to Lincoln, AR and Cypress, Texas for two of them, couldn't hardly do that at today's fuel prices.

Not to sound cute but the "value" is what someone will pay for it. There are various buyers looking for various things.
I can tell you by far this is the best crawler for the size, weight, and fuel economy. Some will argue that bigger dozers are better and they are if you are moving mountains on a regular basis.
As for my taste, the more original, the better and the more I would value it.
Keep in mind that unlike tractors, crawlers are not sold because they look good. The undercarriage wear is typically the part that gets bluffed about the most.

For what its worth, I just sold a 440IC at Polks auction. Had new steering clutches, decent undercarriage, bearings in tranny, no smoke-good compression, non professional re-paint, good hydraulics, 62 blade, and 3 point (no top link). Brought $5600. Expected more, but that was what a willing buyer/willing seller set as its worth! (expected to see you there Lavoy! You missed GoG too. Hope your house is now livable! Pat)

Pat,
Thanks for sharing that, glad you got it sold.
My experience is that auction prices are not reliable. They can run all over the board for many reasons. It can be bad weather, not many people show up and stuff goes cheap. Or it can be a certain day of the week when the sun is out, people are feeling good, and the auctioneer finds a good rivalry and plays it to his advantage running the prices way past reality.
