interchageability 1959-JD440 TO 1963 1010
just found a 440 not far from me, and was wondering if any parts from the 440 will work on the 1010. If they will i will try to buy it for parts

My guess is likely some nuts and bolts obviously would be the same, but I always replace them with new.
I doubt you will find enough parts the same to make a 440C a "1010 donor" crawler.
These are vastly different crawlers. It was the big step from 2 cylinders to 4 cylinders that JD said was not about to happen!

Tracks and bottom rollers are the same. Mabe the front idler wheel too. I've got an idler wheel from a 440 laying alongside my 1010 right now and it looks the same. 440 diesel uses the same hydraulic pump as the 1010. Beyond that, I don't think much interchanges. Maybe some transmission gears but you'd have to double check. 1963 1010 trans isn't even a direct match to the ealier 1010 that came out in 1960.Fitz4227 wrote:just found a 440 not far from me, and was wondering if any parts from the 440 will work on the 1010. The 440 would have to be a very late serial number machine and the 1010 an early serial number machine.
I don't think I've ever saw a 1010 with the same finals as the 440 but I'm told they'll interchange.
I know my grandpa's 1010 has the shifter in the dash so it's somewhat of an early SN, but the final has two bolts above the upper pinion bearing quill which the 440 doesn't have. I've saw many other 1010's with these two bolts also.
