Button head fittings used to be common on rolls, and you used a button head fitting with a low pressure gun (now only available at a very high price) These items were sold by many equipment dealers, meaning that many were generic and not Deere green.

Mine, left over from the 70s and 80s looks like the one below.

I use "corn head" grease in my rolls - per recommendations on this site. It is similar to the 00 grease that was sold for rolls in the past. Our local JD dealer has it in stock.

Good luck.

Low pressure grease gun

Post by Scottyb » Wed May 23, 2012 9:53 pm

I found a low pressure grease gun for $25 at Princess Auto. It is a re-chargeable gun that uses the smaller tubes of grease but I just fill it with my regular gun when it gets empty. It has a maximum pressure of 3000 psi. It works great for only a few dollars. I have seen them at other places for about the same money.

350`s c-loader + ripper, b-loader with winch arch. B-loader with dozer pads
backhoe attachment.
1010 loader with forks for round bales
a few 610 Bobcats. many attachments

Deere used to sell a 5/8" button-head end made by Licoln (Deere didn't make it). You can still buy from Lincoln for $35, or buy one of a different brand (Dynaflo) from Fastenal for $17. Button-heads come in two sizes and you need the smaller 5/8". Not the 7/8".

Deere used to sell "Track and Roller" grease -now sold as "Corn-head" grease. It is #0 from Deere as part # AN102562. I buy for $3.50 a tube from www.green partstore. Any 0, 00 or 000 will work fine but it's usually the cheapest from Deere if you buy on-line. You can also mix 50/50 with 90W gear oil and #2 grease if in a pinch.

Many places still sell high-volume grease guns (high volume is low pressure). Not needed though. A regular small piston/high pressure gun works fine if you use a little care. The low pressure gun has a large piston so it takes more effort to make the same pressure. It's not idiot proof but is less apt not to cause damage in the hands of the wrong person.

I stock the 5/8" gun ends if you need one.

Do you mean the nozzle? The nozzle threads in from the bottom of the carb, and comes out in the venturi area. OAL is about 2". I normally stock them, if not in stock it should be, and I will get more.

1010 nozzle and button grease gun tip

Post by ktheaker » Sat May 26, 2012 4:21 am

yes i believe your right with the nozzle , i took it out from the inside of the carb and i could see that there was a small crack in it , in the brass tube portion close to the base , i could see that there was an oportunity to access on the carb exterior , but i used a socket to pull this out

I'm sorry, I missed the 1010 part of the discussion. I don't have that one, not sure it is available other than Deere.

I assume you've got a Marvel Shebler TSX-809 carb? If so that main nozzle is part # 47-609. Costs $20 from many carb places. I usually buy from Mcdonaldcarb.

http://www.mcdonaldcarb.com/product_p/4 ... sh-609.htm

The 47-609 fits the TSX-809 carb used on many 1010s. If you've got a later carb, i.e. TSX-860 - I think that same nozzle will still fit but I wouldn't swear to it. That carb # does not show in my Marvel Shebler parts book. It only shows in the Deere book and the Deere book only gives me an obsolete Deere # for the nozzle (AT16964T).

Try filling the crack with 5 minute epoxy. Find a wire that closely fits the carburetor's tube when applying, and move it a few times as the epoxy cures. Use a sized acetylene torch tip cleaner to clean up the tube's insides while the epoxy is still somewhat "green" (you may need to sacrifice this tip cleaner - it probably will get somewhat gummed up, and you may need to cut off the pig tail). The outside is easy to reach and clean up. Can't hurt if you can't find a replacement, and may buy you some time until you can. Cured epoxy will stand up to gasoline. Good luck.
