I can see on the side of the plate what looks like a crimp or spot weld mark.
I think what I'm going to do is use the 3513 filter. I will take a piece of heavy wall tubing (exhaust pipe possibly) and make a small spacer for the top. I only need about 1/2".
On the end of the new tube/spacer opposite the filter I'll weld a washer to the spacer (it'll have to big a large ID washer).
I can then make a gasket from cork to go between the top of filter housing and the washer. Also the cork gasket that is on the filter will go against the bottom of the spacer and seal. Finally the cork gasket on the bottom of the filter will seal against the plate in the bottom of the housing like normal.
I think this will be a suffice solution, at least for now and will work well and I'll be able to use a filter that others have proven works.

For reference, the bottom of the filter should be about where the canister begins to turn in to a cone shape. The design was such that water and crud could collect in the bottom area but keeping away from the filter area so as not to stop it up or restrict the flow. I would suggest any spacers be at the bottom to keep the top of the filter against the top casting.
This is an active fuel system. The fuel is running all the time through the filter. The injectors take what they need and the rest is pumped back to the tank, and back through the filter.

Ok, I'll check the bottom of the filter in relation to the canister tonight.
Thanks for the heads up 2006.
