440 final
just brought home a 440 that didn't pull at all on the right side figured it was the clutches but when I went to pull the final the axle pulled out. I knew the bolts had come off the back side figured the splines would be all messed up but they look fine just can't figure out how they wouldn't have got messed up. This is a really clean dozer hasn't been abused at all everything works on it has all the shields for the hoses. dash light even works.

How do you guys find this stuff? When I drive around new places I constantly and looking around trying to spot a patch of grown up weeds with some yellow in the middle.

I ride the suttle back from downtown to our station to get to my pickup and went by it most of the summer. Stoped and talked to the guy a couple of times didn't seem to be able to buy it but was able to do some trading with him. I'm thinking they may have started to take the final off but gave up on it and maybe they took the cap off and took the bolts off the axle and that may be why the splines weren't messed up. will try to get some pictures posted
You do just happen across these machines when you drive the backroads of rural America.
I know of a 1010 crawler loader that is sitting in the cluttered yard of what appears to be an abandoned house in the center of a small railroad town. It's the junkyard type of property that you see on that show "American Pickers".
I know of another antique crawler (what appears to be a CAT D2) in the yard of another similar town about 30 miles from the 1010. It just goes to show if you look they are out there.
