Bull gear wearing on the final drive metal stud question.

Has anyone seen where the inside of the bull gear(facing the seat) wear on the 2 steel studs that are molded into the final drive housing? My bull gear was offset from the pinion gear about 1/8”. Does anyone know how much distance is usually in-between the studs and the bull gear? All of the wear is on the side of the gear below the teeth so there is no damage other than some metal shavings that need flushed out. I cannot see where the bull gear can be moved on the sprocket axle shaft since the bearings and spacer seem to determine where the bull gear is placed. I looked thru the service manuals and there is no mention of this problem. The 2 bolts that are in the inside of the axle shaft was tight, and there was no side to side play on the axle shaft before removal. The shims were installed also. Are the metal studs there as a guide? Any thoughts would be appreciated, Thanks in advance!

Unless somehow the studs have been driven deeper in the case, the bull gear is off center somehow. Maybe a bearing in wrong, spacer changed, I don't know.

Maybe someone put the small spacer on the same side as the large spacer

Only other thought is if the studs have been driven deeper in the case for some reason.

It definitely had me puzzled. I should be putting everything back together this weekend, if time permits. I'll look at the washer and stud depth. I did notice that the bull gear was only wearing on the stud that is toward the front of the machine, the rear is untouched. Which is making me think the bull gear is twisting somehow.... I stilll don't know how that is possible.

Double check you have the bearings in the proper orientation. I know it sounds dumb, but I have take several apart with the bearings installed in the same direction instead of oppsoing each other, and did it once myself.

After tearing the final drive apart it turned out to be that the spacer/washer was in the wrong place and there was improper preload on the bearings. I'll never make that mistake again!
