JD 40 Clutch

Post by JL » Mon Oct 16, 2006 2:37 pm

I just finished painting and restoring a JD 40. The ID Plate is missing I am guessing it is a 53. The right steering clutch only works a little and the clutch will not fully engage to let me change gears without grinding it in gear. I need some help all I have is a owners manual it does show about adjusting the steering clutch but nothing on adjusting the clutch.
I also could use a left foot rest if anyone has one.

The engine clutch should have about 1-2" of freeplay, if that does not solve the problem, you will need to split it and see what is wrong.
Get a service manual and a parts manual, the owners manuals are close to useless if you have any work to do on these things.
