Digging ponds out deeper/larger while keeping water in them is always a recipe for disaster. I had my brother running a rented CAT 939 HST (crawler loader) to do that and he accidentally hit the berm holding the water back which caused a seep and then he promptly got it stuck. Luckily I had more experience operating than him and was able to "walk" it out using the loader bucket. I sure as heck wasn't looking forward to explaining to the CAT Store how their crawler came to be submerged in a half-dug pond! :x

Doing our own digging is not very time or cost effective in many cases but it does bring many of us enjoyment of playing in the dirt and trying to keep these old machines up and running plus we get the job done just like we want it.
