1010 final drive casting ??
1010 final drive casting ??
I am trying to get everything ready for the spring to do the clutches and brakes on my new to me 1964 SN-50449 1010c.
While cleaning things up I noticed a crack and crude repair on the final drive casting. I just cant see myself putting that back on after all the work taking it off. I have found someone in Ontario Canada that has one but I am not sure of fit. It is a lot of money to ship to Nova Scotia Canada, and the part is not cheap either. The casting numbers on the one that is repaired are ground off and covered with a plate for the repair.
The other side has some numbers but not sure of last digits.
T182?? and under that is T158?? The guy in Ontario said that if the cap on the back is three inches deep his will fit. If it is only one inch it will not.
Mine is two inches??????? I am Kind of lost. He is going to email me back.
Would like to know if anyone could help with this. My wife would kill me if I didn't kill myself if I paid $650.00 plus shipping and it never fit.
Your help will be greatly appreciated

only buy something if you are sure it will fit. 650 for a final drive casting is a little pricey. You could buy a parts machine for 1200 or 1500. I'd keep looking.
440 ICD 64 blade & 8a gear attic winch
440 ICD 831 loader with scarifier and weights
420 62 blade 3pt
Looking for 24 scarifier and 440 log arch

1010 final drive casting ??
I would love to find a parts machine around here for $1500.00 there is one 28 hour drive away for $2000.00 Not running but good undercarriage.
The cost to get it here would add $4000.00 to the cost of the old girl.
Looks like I am going to be stuck looking for a casting. I will be sure that it fits before paying for it. I do agree that it is a lot of money for a casting.
Would have liked to get the gears and shafts in it for that price.
Not too many options I can see. The other One I found is in Alberta for $665.00 plus $250 shipping. No guts in, just casting. Looks like supply and demand is in full swing up here in Canada. If anyone in Maine area has one cheap, I would come down and get it. Thanks for looking at post anyway.

final drive casting interchange 1010-440
hi johnny-0. got a friend i talk to there with my cb.
well unfortunately you are on the edge of the continent and stuff always has to be shipped in.
not to open up a can of worms but i am pretty sure the very late model 440 casting will fit.
my only concern is that,,, is there any (final drive casting) difference between early and late model 1010's...
use this site's search feature and you should be able to get the info.
put the old on back on and if it comes apart, then spend the money.
maybe this helped. good luck, happy wrenching.

1010 final drive casting ??
Thanks for the info, I will try and look through this forum and see if a 440 casting will fit. It's funny that you sent that link, I did talk to Craig Richards in CT on Friday. He has not bought the 1010 for parts yet. Was just thinking about it and working on a deal.
He did however tell me the same thing that you said. He thought a 440 would fit, and he has one. For $350.00 with the internal parts. He said if he gets the 1010, same deal if the 440 doesn't fit. If I can find out that it will fit I will fuel up the old VW Golf diesel and head down and get it. He is going to let me know if he finds out anything Tuesday night. He said that he has someone over Tuesday that might know if it will fit.
THanks again

Late 440 looks similar, will bolt in, but is different, gears are narrower than 1010, so do not interchange. There are also some other internal or external changes but not major.

1010 final drive casting ??
Thanks for info: Does that mean that the housing would work with my 1010 guts? or leave it alone?
1010 final drive casting ??
Just got an answer from Farmer Johns .com If a late model 440 would work on 1010.. Single word answer. ( NO )
Back to square one. I know that some of you say use the old one until it falls off. I just can't do it. I mean there is more silly cone that weld in the crack/brake. The plate that is bolted over doesn't look strong either.
I will keep on looking and hoping.

No, 1010 gears will not fit in a 440 case. You also need to determine which case you need, there are two different cases on a 1010.

1010 final drive casting ??
I have a couple lined up but need to make sure I get the right one.
How do you tell the difference? I can only make out some casting numbers. I have the serial number of the machine. I have heard that you can also tell by the cap underneath on the inside. Would like to know how to tell them apart with certainty before placing order.
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks again

Early model 1010 has only one hole for the Brake rod, and are LH/RH side dependent, late model 1010 have two brake rod holes in the casting, and can be used on either side with a plug installed in the rear facing hole. Same for the brake band bolt that protrudes through, that is what I have noticed. I have both type in my shop right now

Hello Johnny O,
It depends on how fast you need that case. I could get a decent one and bring it near Matane when the occasion shows up... (empty case). A friend of mine bought a cabin that was the property of a mechanic owning many jd crawlers. He kept a lot of spare parts. I'm more into 440 and the case found there is for a 1010. Otherwise my friend will send this to scrap iron . I was able to find A LOT of parts! Lower and upper rollers, sprockets, hyd cylinders, tracks, a starter, many axles. There is a 2-53 and a 440 transmission also still there and much more...
The numbers on the final case looks like yours:
