firing order

Post by nails » Fri Oct 02, 2015 5:16 pm

Okay, the pump is back on, and it's bled to the injectors. I'll put the battery on the charger before firing up the (new!) glow plugs.
But I want to verify the position of the #1 fuel line: is it on the right-front or right-rear banjo bolt?
It was on the right front, but the PO had the timing all screwed up. I had to move the oil pump shaft 2 positions to even see the timing mark. That works out to about 90-degrees, from the timing mark pointing toward the front of the tractor to visible in the window. So, I moved the lines one position the same way (to the right, looking down on the pump).
But the spec sheet suggests that I should've left it alone. Can anyone wrap their head around this? (Well, before I just try it, tomorrow afternoon.)
Continued thanks.

Okay, it's front-right.
It runs, and not even a gob of smoke. But still needs either to start. Hopefully it'll get better with some runs to the post office.
Waiting for PTO seals; then fill the hydraulic fluid right, hook up the pump, and see if the rockshaft actually works. Baby steps.

Glow plug for at least 30 seconds even on an 80 degree day if the engine has not been run recently.

Don't mean to turn this into a never-ending saga.
But I did something stupid with an indicator light. And now that the glow plugs actually get power, they work swell!
The axles are a lot quieter after driving in a ditch and tilting way to the side -- curious to see if I get oil leaking on the inside of the wheels. The temp gauge wasn't showing anything, but the block really is only warm to touch -- thermostat obviously stuck open. IP window has minor fuel leak. A headlight quit working again. Oil sending unit (light) apparently isn't working at all, but the gauge says everything is fine.
I reckon I've moved into full tractor ownership. Thanks again. I think.
Now to find a home (with tracks!) for my 2010 motor.

It is probably obvious to say this, but now that your glow plugs are working do not use ether. To do so could destroy the precombustion chambers on top of the cylinder heads.

Yeah, I totally get that. When I needed ether, first turned the glow plugs off a long time to cool down. (They weren't really getting hot in the first place.) Really glad to not have to hear all that ether-knock any more -- can't be good for the con-rods.

Waiting on misc parts before re-installing the center pump and checking out the on-board hydraulics. In the meantime, I'm driving around with ATF in the gear box to clean it out, but I don't want that in the pump &etc. The rockshaft cylinders looked good; and the pump feels good turning it in my hand. Hope springs eternal.

Will post photo after I get the hydraulics re-plumbed so I can finish fabbing the side covers. It's sure pretty!
