Hello

Post by Paul Harney » Thu Oct 01, 2015 6:37 pm

Hello everyone. Just this week I purchased a 440icd with an 831 loader. I've gleaned a ton of info off of this board and I'm glad to be a member now. The crawler needs some work but it's not a basket case as far as I know. Both steering clutches are contaminated with oil so digging into that first. Undercarriage is serviceable but not great. Lots to learn but looking forward to the challange!

Welcome to the world of crawlers. Your situation sounds familiar - a great potential with short term challenges to be dealt with. Good luck as you dig in and bring your machine back to usuable service.

Welcome. Get the service manual before tearing into your machine, it will save much headache and parts.

The parts are on the way and I've been studying the service manual. I'm planning to pull the finals on Sunday. First step is to remove the fenders, associated loader parts and the tracks which I'm picking away at after work this week.

Do yourself a favor and build a yoke like in the manual to remove the final drive. It makes it a ton easier to rotate the final to clear the track rail when you remove it.
