Reason for replacing old rotor & cap they were heavily marked. I have purchased a rotor from NAPA & one from Car Quest both are NOT tight fitting like the old rotor & have marked the new dist. cap. and I haven't even got the thing running yet, it only turns over. Anyone else had this problem with replacement parts?

0 volts at the distributor side of the coil may also indicate a short to ground in the wiring going to the dist. or the points are shorted out or the condenser is shorted in addition to open primary of the coil. Does the coil get warm to the touch after the switch has been on for a while?

rotor can not be hitting the cap or it will run like crap if at all ..... sounds like they are giving you the wrong one.... one from napa should be ECH AL134 and cap looks like ECH AL133

Yup, that is the part # s they sold me. The new rotor does not fit snuggly like the old one did and the old rotor fits snug to the new cap. ??? Wonder if the wrong rotor was put in the box. I did make "another" 2 hr round trip to town & bought a new rotor & cap at Car quest as NAPA did not have one in stock to compare, I will see if it fits any better.

It should run with that much slop. The slop in the points can change the electrical timing by causing the spark to the plugs to be inconsistent. In your case, the point gap may change as much as .005, causing the plug spark to be a little retarded.

With the slop in the bushings and shaft you may need to file the end of the rotor just a smidgen so it DON'T hit the cap

Good thought; seems like it was mentioned earlier that the rotor was leaving a mark on the distributor cap.
