I am the one who has been having the "Ignition, NO spark issue" in a previous thread. I have a gas 1964 2010 with a prestolite distributor (part # IBT4101). The insulator (part #T 16587 T) must have been replaced at some point with something that looked similar to JB Weld that just disintegrated when I took dist. cap off. I am thinking I will need the whole assembly consisting of the retaining clip, insulator plate assembly, special washer and special screw, this assembly fits inside the dist. cap area.
Has anyone encountered a problem with this assembly? I have tried making an "Insulator" with rubber washers & now have spark, engine will turn over, but still won't run. Is there a way to bypass this insulated screw assembly or know where to find replacement parts for this prestolite dist?

Hi,
I would bypass by doing what you did, and adding a piece of hose with the wire running thru just to reinforce the wire insulation. Wrapping with electrical tape would do as well.

Hi Stan, since doing that I have spark now BUT it still won't run. Turns over great & will continue to turn over till the battery runs down. It has done this from the beginning of my ignition problem. Just wont run. I will take the carb apart "again" tho I don't think that is what it is. I am just at a loss as to what else to try. New or old parts, dist. cap, rotor, coil, condenser, points no matter how I mix them up, it still does the same thing, will crank but not run I have had to walk away for a few days, then start all over again, same results

Hi,
My next step would be to squirt some fuel into the cylinders. If it fires and quits, then there is a fuel issue to shoot. If it fires and runs, then there is a choke issue (not rich enough when cold).
If you can't get even a pop after ensuring a rich mix, then there would be a timing issue with the spark.
