Early 1010 12" to 14" track pad swap???
Early 1010 12" to 14" track pad swap???
Is there an adjustment that needs to be made to the track carrier assembly when going from a 12" to a 14" pad?
I just picked up a set of used mint berco tracks, sprockets and rollers and was so excited over the find that I didnt measure anything. I just rebuilt my left side steering clutches, get it all back together, go to install the new sprocket and its hitting the inside of the last lower roller. Thats when I checked and noticed the size difference in the pads!
Appreciate any advice.

Yes. You might have to reverse your sprockets and move track carrier and safety blocks outward to the proper track width. There are chisel marks on each crossbar to help align the track carriers with the sprocket. There are two different sprockets available for the 40c 4 roller. The deep one gives you a choice of 36 or 46 inch track tread. The shallow one, a choice of 38 or 44 inch tread. Following is a table of the shoe widths that can be used with each tread width:
Tread Width Track Shoe Width
36" 10"
38" 10", 12"
44" 10", 12", 14"
46" 10", 12", 14"
No matter which sprocket you have you should be able to accommodate your wider pads by reversing the sprockets and/or moving the track carrier. Full instructions are in the Operator's Manual and the Service Manual

have 40c 4 roller crawler, 1927 Ford T Touring car, 1931 Ford A Roadster, 1951 Standard Vanguard Saloon. Never a dull moment!
1010 is not treadwidth adjustable, what you have is what you get. Unless you have a power 6 way, you should be fine, and even then, 1010 power 6 way may clear 14" pads. Just measure clearance to you dozer frame from your existing pads.

Hi,
That sounds like you do not have the correct New sprocket. Not something related to the pads.....

The pad width will not affect the position of the sprocket in relation to the roller. The dish in that particular Berco sprocket may not actually fit your JD1010. (Of course there is always the possibility that your axle is loose which is the most common cause of sprocket to roller interaction, but doubtful here unless you had problems with your old sprocket.) You may be able to add spacers to get the sprocket where you need it to be.
If all else fails, you can always box up the new chain and pads and send them to me.

Hi,
Ah. That header is related to the post count. It starts with the MC crawler and moves up thru the later models as your post count grows, until it tops out at 350 crawler.....

350 sprocket won't bolt on, different bolt pattern. Only Berco sprocket that had been available in the last 20 years or so was the ID92 which is the correct sprocket for the 1010, and they went obsolete at least 5 years ago. Way, way back they did make the deep dish sprocket, but I have never seen one, only read references to them in 40 year old literature. Something is up, but as was said, pad width has no relation to sprocket position as far as influencing it.

Hi,
I was unsure about the 1010 v 350 bolt pattern, so that part is now squirreled away.

Thanks for the helpful info All.
They are Berco ID 92 sprockets. And I made sure they were off of an early 1010 before I purchased but there is still quite a bit of interference with the lower roller. There is a significant difference in the width of the sprocket compared to the stock. My machine has been apart for about 2 years waiting on parts. Is there any chance that something could have moved or that something is worn out or misadjusted creating the interference? I do see some wear on the rear mount tube for the carrier assembly.

Track frame is out of position. You need to center the rear roller on the sprocket, and them check for parallel and straight on both track frames.
