Final drive bearing adjustement
Final drive bearing adjustement
Hi, I’m rebuilding my finals drives on my 40c with all new bearings cones and cup. Is that normal to add 0.100” of shims to adjust correctly with preload the down sides bearings?

No, preload must be set between .003-.007.

You have right but to have the correct preload I have to put a minimum amount of 0.100" of shims and I would like to know if its normal

Normally no, but is there wear on the spacer, wear on the sides of the bull gear, washer missing under the inside bearing, bearings installed the right way?

All parts are there: seal retainer, seal, cup, cone, spacer, gear, washer, cone, cup, shims and the cap.

Re: Final drive bearing adjustement
Then it has to be wear on the spacer or the side/s of the bull gear. As long as everything is tight, it will be fine assuming you have the bearings in the correct way.
